DDR2 is the advanced version of DDR SDRAM. With DDR2, a computer user is able to open many applications at the same time and also play the games of his interest. Opening of multiple applications on a computer is facilitated by high SDRAM in the computer. DDR2 works at double the speed of clock. This helps in storing the memory in cells that are activated by the clock signal. This entire activity gets in sync with the external activity.

During the normal cell cycles of data transfer, DDR2 is able to transfer the data at rate of four bits. The DDR2 has double the capacity of DDR and therefore transfers the data at double the rate of DDR. It is a drastic change from the previous version. The memory chips of DDR2 are very different from the memory chips of DDR. DDR2 chip has 240 pins while DDR has only 180 pins. The pins also have improved over the previous version.

DDR2 provides an extra external bus to the memory that in turn allows the memory to operate at double clock rate. DDR2 can be defined as a collection of integrated circuits. The structure of these types of memory modules is similar to that of DDR. The integrated circuits can read the data or erase it within the cells. Other than this, DDR2 can store the electrical charges that are a representation of binary data. The process used by DDR2 memory works as the operating ground for many programs.

What is DRAM?

When we talk of DRAM, it is important that we first understand that there are different types of memories. There are basically two types of memories. There is short tern memory and there is long term memory. The short term memory is known as the Ram or the random access memory. It can be changed quickly. It can also be accessed at a fast speed but it cannot be stored due to its volatile nature. As soon as the power is turned off, RAM loses all its data. DRAM is one of the cheapest and most economical types of RAM. It is the most commonly used type of RAM.

The DRAM has small switches known as the capacitors. The capacities are assigned values in the form of zeroes and ones. The computer stores data in these capacitors. For example, if there is a requirement of storing a blank, the computer will leave a blank. If it wants to store one, the computer will empty the capacitor. In the blank, the computer will be able to store energy that will be drained out quickly. To be able to perform the task better, the computer will have to read the capacitor n number of times in a second. It will be able to charge the capacitors to enable them to store electricity. The entire process tends to slow down the computer performance. Therefore, even though this RAM is fast enough, it is slower as compared to SRAM.
